Deposit Guarantee Scheme Directive (DGSD)

Protecting your money

The European Commission proposed in July 2010 a comprehensive review of the Directive on Deposit Guarantee Schemes (DGS) aimed at harmonising and simplifying the Directive in order to improve protection of deposits, maintain depositor confidence, and strengthen the safety net.

Your eligible deposits with each of HSBC Bank plc and HSBC UK Bank plc are protected up to the FSCS compensation limit by the Financial Services Compensation Scheme, the UK's deposit protection scheme. Most deposits are covered by the scheme. This limit is applied to the total of any deposits you have with each of HSBC Bank plc and HSBC UK Bank plc.

On 16 January 2017, the Prudential Regulation Authority announced the deposit protection limit would be reset to protect depositors up to GBP85,000 as of 30 January 2017.

Any deposits you hold above the FSCS compensation limit are unlikely to be covered, unless under specific circumstances, as determined by the FSCS.
